Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Michael Wildman has said goodbye to fans and Al Chapman after his character was shockingly killed off in tonight’s episode (November 1).

Last week it was reported that actor Wildman would be leaving Emmerdale after three years playing Al. But it’s safe to say that not many fans expected him to meet his end tonight.

In a video posted to the soap’s official Twitter accountWildman said: “It’s time for Al Chapman to move on. I just want to say a big thank you to all the fans.

“All of you out there who have made this possible for me to play. I have enjoyed every moment of playing this mischievous, complex character. Thank you to the 95% of you who absolutely hate him and the 5% of you who actually love him.”

“It’s been a great time, my three years here. It’s gone very, very quickly. But we’ve gotten into a lot of mischief, so I’m happy with that,” he added. “I have worked with some great people here and I will cherish them 100%.”

Tonight’s episode picked up with Al and Cain fighting over a rifle after Cain discovered Al had been having a secret affair with Chas Dingle.

Viewers then heard a gunshot as Kerry entered the barn to find her fiancé dead on the ground with Cain standing over his body.

When the police arrived, Cain was arrested and charged with Al’s murder, despite protesting that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The soap will lose another actor soon as Fiona Wade will be leaving the role of Priya Sharma (who was once engaged to Al) in the coming months.

This follows the exit of Isobel Steele, whose character Liv Dingle was killed off in Emmerdales deadly storm week as part of the show’s 50th anniversary episode.

Katherine Dow Blyton also recently left the soap, and her character Harriet Finch also died after being swept up in the dangerous weather.

Emmerdale broadcast on weekday evenings at 19.30 on ITV and streamed on ITV Hub.
